Why do people hate mathematics?

Video

As many educators know, instilling a love about mathematics can be a trial in every day practice, even to our youngest pupils. This embittering hatred towards the subject can grow and grow, with some pupils placing barriers in their own way as they decide they cannot do it! The reasons behind this are explored in this interesting video, published by Numberphile, where Professor Edward Frenkel describes the problem with a poor early appreciation and understanding of the subject, advocating that maths learning should firmly be placed in real-world/daily life experiences.

The author of “Love and Math: The Heart of Hidden Reality“, Professor Frenkel accepts some of the blame of this hatred, as mathematicians are not as good as scientists at sharing the ‘secret’ to their art, and this should be opened for all to enjoy the joys of maths.
