The Porsche 356 is a luxury sports car which was first produced by Austrian company Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH (1948-1949), and then by German company Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH (1950-1965).
The 356 is an automotive design icon of mine because of it’s timeless silhouette that all Porsche cars are still based today including the modern day 911. The design is simple and clear-cut, it was simply designed to embodies the rear mounted air-cooled flat 4 engine. The body line directs airflow to the vent on the engine cover to aid engine cooling.
One of the aspect of the 356 that makes makes the whole car to particularly stand out are the big round headlamps and the dome shaped wheel covers on some 356 variants/models.
